Stars Turn Out for the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park

The Global Citizen Festival, which for the second year drew a capacity audience of 60,000 to the Great Lawn, revolves around a single, stubborn mission: the end of extreme poverty worldwide. Repeatedly during the five-and-a-half-hour concert, there were reminders of its core objective, though testimonials, short videos and shrewd deployments of celebrity: for almost every nervous spokesperson of a foundation or corporate outreach program, there was somebody like the actor Gerard Butler warming up the vast crowd.
